History

Our inaugural meeting took place at the National Council of Social Service offices in London on 17 January 1975.

We were called the Welfare Rights Officers’ Group for the first few years, then changed it to the National Welfare Rights Officers’ Group (to distinguish it from the emerging regional groups). We became the National Association of Welfare Rights Advisers in 1992.

With thanks to our unoffical archivist, Geoff Fimister.
