Jennifer Cowen at Durham County Council is NAWRA representative for north east England.

Jennifer has worked as a Welfare Rights Officer since 2004 at Durham County Council in various roles including take up campaigns, general advice, outreach work, and tribunal representation. She currently works in partnership with Macmillan and has been providing advice for cancer patients and their families for over a decade. She provides the full range of advice from initial advice and claims, through to upper tier representation.

Jennifer holds a Masters in Social Welfare Law and graduated from this in 2018. Her main area of interest was analysing the changing benefit entitlement policy for bereaved Claimants and considering the impact on funeral and bereavement poverty.

Her interests include music, knitting and crochet, walks in nature, and participating weekly in the National Garden Moth Survey.
