A key element of NAWRAs objectives is to seek to influence government proposals and existing legislation by utilising the expertise of our members. So that we can feed in to the first review of Personal Independence Payment assessment we need your data on how well this has been working (or not working).
To make it easier to get your feedback, we drafted a brief surview. The review closes on 5 September so we need your responses as soon as possible. Please take a moment to complete it. Please also pass this on and encourage your colleagues to complete it too. Here is the link to our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LLSL8R5
It would also be useful if you could send us some case studies that we can include. If you have any case studies, or any other issues you would like to raise, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’ve submitted our response to the government’s consultation on the PIP mobility component. Thanks to Tom Messere and all the NAWRA members who contributed their ideas.
The Disability Benefits Consortium (DBC) are writing to David Cameron and Nick Clegg to raise their concerns at changes to PIP, particularly the introduction of the 20 metre qualifying distance for the enhanced rate of the benefit. They, and NAWRA, believe this could cause large numbers of people to miss out on fundamental support.
The DBC news story can be found here and you can sign the letter via this link
The Government are consulting further on the change from 50 metres (under DLA) to 20 metres (under PIP) as the distance for an award for a higher level Mobility. The consultation can be found here and the Rightsnet story on the consultation is here.
Tom Messere, NAWRA rep for south Wales, is pulling together a NAWRA response to this by the deadline of 5th August and would be grateful for any thoughts comments from fellow members. Time is short, so perfect prose and finely honed arguments not needed (but always welcome); jottings, thoughts, scans of backs of a beer mat – anything that can be sent via e-mail – will be greatly appreciated.
