NAWRA has submitted its response to the Pathways to Work Green Paper consultation.

We highlight that the employment support reforms proposed in the paper are premature until the government has set out what its new support offer will look like, properly tested and resourced it, and resolved the problems of backlogs and delays within Access to Work.

Rejecting completely the proposals to reform PIP, we suggest that the government has focused on short-term savings without taking into account the knock-on impacts on other services such as HMCTS, the NHS and social care.

We conclude that –

‘… not only will the proposed reforms fail to produce financial savings, but they will also fail to support people into work. Instead, they will cause distress and destitution to some of the most vulnerable people in our society leaving them isolated and unable to participate.’
